Nevertheless, Nakamoto remains the most prominent and accepted creator of bitcoin
It is believed that Nakamoto created and first introduced bitcoins publicly in the year 2008. This began with the quiet registration of a website named bitcoin.org and the subsequent publication of a paper entitled, “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-peer Electronic Cash System”. This paper explained what bitcoin was and how it could be used.
Although Satoshi Nakamoto is strongly credited with the creation of bitcoin, it is no secret that he was not alone in the creation of the popular cryptocurrency. Game console developer, Hal Finney, has been credited with the further development of bitcoin following Nakamoto’s introduction of it in the public markets.
Finney purportedly offered to become the very first miner of bitcoins, stemming from his fascination of the “decentralized online currency.” While some attribute the creation of bitcoin to Finney, he has outrightly denied any such accolade, insisting that his involvement with the cryptocurrency was not primary. In fact, just before Finney died from ALS in 2014, he revealed in a blog post that he still did not know the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, having never met him physically.
Nakamoto was actively involved in the bitcoin development and the growth of the cryptocurrency until 2011. He had created a slew of writings about bitcoin and how the cryptocurrency is supposed to work. But in 2011, he announced that he was moving on to pursue other things, and that he felt that bitcoin was in capable hands. From that point, Nakamoto was silent concerning bitcoin and his online presence virtually disappeared.
The real Satoshi Nakamoto has been confused with an elderly Japanese-American man named Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto, who lives in Los Angeles, California with his family. Reporters have even trailed him to his home, hoping to find out more about the mysterious “Satoshi Nakamoto”. Nevertheless, this gentleman insists that he is not the Satoshi Nakamoto behind the creation of bitcoin, and that he only found out about the cryptocurrency in the year 2014. The man believed to be the real creator, released an online message that Dorian S. Nakamoto was not the creator of bitcoin.
Due to the rising popularity of bitcoin, there have been many persons who have come out of the woodworks claiming to be the real creator of the cryptocurrency. One such person was Australian, Craig Wright. He claimed that he was the actual creator of the currency and that he had anonymously released the bitcoin under the pseudonym “Satoshi Nakamoto”. Wright later relented stating that he was not courageous enough to publish proof that he was the real creator of the cryptocurrency.
A man by the name Nick Szabo, has also been labeled as the creator of bitcoin. However, there is no proof supporting these claims. Today, Satoshi Nakamoto continues to be known as the man who created bitcoin, albeit that his identity is unknown.
